In case you missed it, here’s the link to my most recent Church Hopping entry on Burnside Writers Collective. In this adventure, I bring you to Agia Lavra, the little church where the Greek revolution began. Long before Facebook organized citizens, the Church was a place of social change.
Yiasou!

This morning I heard someone say that when you travel, it’s not really about traveling but about seeking relaxation or adventure. It rubbed me the wrong way. I’m not sure why. It’s not that traveling for those reasons is wrong, but it made me consider why I myself am so drawn to travel. I feel like it’s in my blood. My mother’s ancestry is Sami, the nomadic people who made their homes in the Arctic Circle. And my father was a sea captain who regaled me with stories of his travels to Peru, Japan, Nova Scotia, and beyond. My family is spread out over Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America. I travel to see family and friends. I travel to understand my own identity. I travel to understand others better. I travel to experience and make memories and create bonds.
Felt nostalgic for Greece. Went to Astoria.
If I could travel back to any point in history it would be to see the Beatles live in concert at Shea Stadium in 1965. The year before they’d played the Ed Sullivan Show, but the Shea Stadium concert was like no other. It was the first significant stadium concert by a pop band, and it was louder than a jet. Girls were literally crying they were so overcome by Beatlemania. Although I learned about the Beatles many years after that point in history, they opened up a whole new world to me. Beyond their music, they’ve inspired some of the books I’ve read, the places I’ve traveled, and my fashion.
Sometimes the most beautiful things in life are also the most fleeting.
Innovation begins with authenticity.
Classic New York.
