Did you know Audubon (yes, the bird guy) was one of the founders of a church up in Washington Heights? If you weren’t able to make it to the live Church Hopping event, you can read about it here, on Burnside Writers Collective.

I can never resist stopping to browse @argosybookstore ! The way they shelve their books outside is like the way a Greek hostess puts out “just a few” delectable treats and then you end up waddling away feeling full and happy.
I had an amazing painting instructor who used to tell me: there are no mistakes. I’ve never had a writing instructor tell me that.

Artists — painters, poets, dancers, percussionists, photographers, fiction writers, actors, scriptwriters, graphic novelists, and so on — open our eyes and help us truly see the world around us. Sometimes they accomplish this by zooming in on something we may typically overlook. Other times they may not even mention or depict something at all, and it is the absence of it or a symbol that draws our attention to it. Or, an artist may turn to satire to help us see something pure words or imagery would not. Sometimes a moon is telling us more than the time of day. Sometimes a green light is more than a green light. Sometimes an open road holds more significance than a road trip itself. Sometimes a madeleine is a gateway to the past. But a painting of a pipe is not a pipe itself, and that’s important to remember too.
Sometimes New York City fills me with such wonder. ✨✨✨
